On Friday, the government announced an increase in the prices of petroleum products, effective from February 1 (Saturday) for the next fortnight.
The price hike impacts both petrol and high-speed diesel. According to an official notification from the Ministry of Finance, petrol will see an increase of Rs1 per litre, bringing its new rate to Rs257.13 per litre.
High-speed diesel, on the other hand, has seen a significant rise of Rs7 per litre, with the new price set at Rs267.95 per litre.
The finance ministry officially confirmed these changes through a formal notification. Just last month, on January 16, the government raised the prices of petrol and diesel in a similar manner, increasing petrol by Rs3.47 per litre to Rs256.13, and high-speed diesel by Rs2.61 per litre to Rs260.95.
