ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government is set to collect an additional Rs17 billion in revenue by June 30 following a recent hike in the petroleum levy, citing official sources.
The increase is part of Islamabadโs ongoing commitments under its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The revised levy structure is expected to generate around Rs7 billion in monthly revenue.
According to the updated rates, the petroleum levy on petrol has been raised by Rs8.02, bringing the total to Rs78.02 per litre. High-speed diesel now carries a levy of Rs77.01 per litre after an increase of Rs7.01. The levy on kerosene oil was increased by Rs7.99 to Rs18.95 per litre, while light diesel oil saw a hike of Rs7.62, taking it to Rs15.37 per litre. The levy on High-Octane Blending Component (HOBC) also rose by Rs8.02 per litre.
Despite the increased levies, the federal government announced earlier this week that fuel prices would remain unchanged for the next fortnight. Petrol will continue to be sold at Rs254.63 per litre, and high-speed diesel at Rs258.64 per litre, according to an official notification.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that while international oil prices had declined, the government would allocate any resulting fiscal space to developmental projects rather than reducing fuel prices.
