Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja are back in the spotlight after reports confirmed that Sunita filed for divorce, alleging adultery, cruelty, and desertion. The case, filed in December 2024 at the Bandra Family Court, has once again stirred public debate about the couple’s relationship.
Divorce Petition Filed Under Hindu Marriage Act
Court documents reveal that Sunita submitted her petition on December 5, 2024, under Section 13 (1) (i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. These sections deal with adultery, cruelty, and desertion as legal grounds for divorce.
According to records, Govinda failed to attend hearings until a show cause notice was issued in May 2025. In contrast, Sunita has been consistently present at court appearances and has participated in mandatory counselling sessions organized by the court.
Govinda’s Legal Team Denies Divorce Claims
Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindra, has downplayed the case, insisting that “everything is being settled.” He assured that the matter is being exaggerated and that the couple will be seen together soon. Similarly, Govinda’s manager, Shashi, emphasized that the actor is not capable of cruelty or violence. He described the current controversy as an attempt to revive old rumors and damage Govinda’s public image.
Sunita Expresses Her Feelings Publicly
While legal proceedings continue, Sunita has chosen to share her emotions publicly. In a vlog recorded during her visit to Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Temple, she became tearful while recalling her prayers for a strong and lasting marriage.
She remarked, “Whoever tries to break my home, Maa Kaali is there. It is not right to cause pain to a good man and a good woman.”
Sunita also removed Govinda’s surname from her social media accounts, a move that further fueled speculation regarding the state of their marriage.
Close Friends and Industry Reactions
Despite the legal filings, some friends and colleagues remain optimistic about the couple’s bond. A close acquaintance admitted to having witnessed heated arguments between the two but added that they always reconciled afterward.
Film producer Pahlaj Nihalani also came forward in support of Govinda, stating that no one can break the eternal love between the actor and his wife. He maintained that, while they may fight, permanent separation is unlikely.
The divorce petition filed by Sunita Ahuja has put Govinda’s personal life under renewed public scrutiny. With contrasting statements from Sunita, Govinda’s legal team, and industry voices, uncertainty surrounds the couple’s future. Whether the marriage will end legally or be salvaged through reconciliation remains to be seen.
