ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to incorporate more changes to the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill, sources confirmed on Wednesday.
According to officials, the revised amendments will be tabled in the National Assembly later today. Once approved, the bill will be sent back to the Senate for further consideration and endorsement.
Federal Cabinet and Senate Sessions Scheduled
An emergency meeting of the federal cabinet will be held today (Wednesday) to finalize the proposed changes. The Senate has also been summoned to meet at 5 p.m. this evening to review the revised version of the bill, sources added.
Opposition Submits 11 Amendments Against Key Provisions
Meanwhile, the opposition has decided to submit 11 amendments to the bill, primarily objecting to proposed changes in the structure of the superior judiciary.
Sources revealed that the oppositionโs amendments also address concerns over the clause granting immunity to the president, which has drawn widespread criticism from opposition parties and legal experts.
Nawaz Sharif to Attend National Assembly Session
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to arrive in Islamabad this afternoon to attend the National Assembly session.
During his visit, Nawaz Sharif will also offer condolences to the family of late Senator Irfan Siddiqui at their Islamabad residence, sources confirmed.

With both the government and opposition preparing rival amendments, Wednesdayโs National Assembly session is expected to witness intense debate and political maneuvering. The government hopes to secure swift passage of the bill to pave the way for the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court under the 27th Amendment.
