Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah and senior PTI leaders on Thursday rejected widespread speculation regarding former prime minister Imran Khan’s health and alleged transfer to a high-security facility, insisting he is “fine and nothing is wrong with him.”
The PTI had earlier expressed alarm, saying concerns had grown after the incarcerated leader was denied meetings with family members and lawyers for over three weeks. Imran has been imprisoned since August 2023, serving a 14-year sentence in a corruption case.
PTI members and his family have held demonstrations outside Adiala Jail in recent days, demanding access. A party delegation attempted to meet him on Thursday, but prison authorities again refused permission.
Meanwhile, international media organisations, including Nikkei and the BBC, reported on growing questions about the 73-year-old’s well-being, compounded by social media trends such as “Where is Imran Khan?” The interior ministry did not issue a statement.
Speaking on ARY News, Sanaullah dismissed all reports as “absolutely wrong,” saying that a medical team monitored Imran’s diet, treatment, and overall condition on a daily and weekly basis. He rejected claims of any planned prison transfer, noting that the court would need to be notified before such a move.
PTI Senator Ali Zafar, in a separate interview, also denied the rumours but stressed that the government must allow a meeting to end speculation. He said PTI had raised the issue in the Senate and urged Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary to facilitate an immediate visit.
Imran’s son Kasim Khan, however, reiterated concerns, claiming his father had been kept in solitary confinement with no communication for six weeks despite court orders permitting family access. He urged international human rights bodies to demand proof of life, transparency, and an end to what he called “inhumane isolation.”
