There was a prompt administrative decision by the central government in the capital city on Monday. Former Lt. Col. Sohail Ashraf has been appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of Islamabad. He took over his new office on Monday itself. He was also put in charge of the CDA.
Randhawa removed from dual posts
The authorities decided to relieve Mohammad Ali Randhawa of his duties as Chief Commissioner and Chairman of CDA. He was requested to present himself before the establishment division without any further ado. Randhawa had been concurrently working in both capacities for quite some time.
The sudden resignation of Randhawa came after the CDA was severely criticized by the general public. This was on account of its massive tree felling activities for the construction of developmental projects in Islamabad.
Sohail Ashraf is an experienced BS-20 cadre of the Pakistan Administrative Service. He used to work under the Punjab government. He is now appointed as the Secretary of Urban Development in Punjab. Sohail has vast experience in his field. In addition, he worked as a Director General in the Punjab Land Record Authority. Besides, he acted as a Deputy Commissioner of Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
Fresh leadership aims to address capital challenges
This comes in as a major reorganization of the bureaucratic system within the capital of Pakistan. It is anticipated that Mr. Ashraf will be decisive and strong in dealing with development issues. These will include managing urban development projects and environmental protection.
Citizens of Islamabad usually look forward to any appointment. This is because the roles of the Chief Commissioner and CDA Chairman are of vital importance in determining the development of Islamabad and the provision of its services.
The appointment by the government is an indication that the government intends to inject fresh blood into the administration. All eyes are now focused on what will happen with regard to tree planting, urban planning, and services provision.
