Gohar Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, during his statement to the Federal Investigation Agency regarding a contentious video released from Imran Khan’s social media account, expressed his disagreement with the decision to upload the said video.
He confirmed that Jibran Ilyas and Azhar Mashwani manage the incarcerated PTI founder’s social media accounts from abroad.
In the course of FIA’s cybercrime inquiry into the controversial video, Barrister Gohar underwent questioning for two hours, while the party’s Information Secretary, Raoof Hasan, was interrogated for four hours.
Sources disclosed that Gohar disagreed with the content of the contentious video, emphasizing the importance of de-escalating the situation and seeking a peaceful resolution.
Barrister Gohar reiterated his non-conclusive agreement with the upload of the contentious video, affirming that Ilyas and Mashwani, who manage social media accounts from abroad, primarily bear responsibility for content creation and video production. He clarified his disassociation from any involvement in this matter.
When questioned about the reasoning behind PTI’s decision to delegate social media responsibilities to individuals residing abroad, Gohar declined to offer a satisfactory explanation, mentioning that such arrangements had received prior approval within the party before his involvement.
Raoof Hasan, addressing inquiries during the investigation, indicated that the party’s social media operations are managed by Ilyas, based in the United States, with him being responsible for the situation.
However, Hasan mentioned that he lacked information regarding the video’s upload.
Regarding the similarities depicted in the controversial video, displaying the image of the current military leadership, Raoof Hasan stated his intention to raise these concerns with Imran Khan and seek clarification.
Sources also disclosed that Barrister Gohar struggled to justify the controversial video during the inquiry.
Raoof Hasan attributed the video to the social media team, while PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub opted not to attend the inquiry and instead sent his lawyer.
