Point of No Return
Former PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has cautioned those in power, asserting that the party has endured enough and should not be driven to the “point of no return.” Speaking in an interview with Voice of America Urdu, he emphasized that even during the election process, purported “vengeful actions” against PTI persist.
Gohar urged those in power to recognize the limits, stating, “Don’t push us to the point of no return.” Despite expressing the party’s willingness to engage in dialogue and collaborate with rivals, he warned that unresolved differences could be exploited by a third force.
Gohar highlighted the potential consequences of sidelining the country’s largest party from the democratic process, questioning the legitimacy of calling such a situation a democratic country. He suggested that certain institutions are favoring PTI’s rivals, alleging interference against the party.
Addressing concerns about PTI’s loss of the ‘bat’ symbol, Gohar stressed the significant impact on the party’s electoral prospects, especially in key decisions for the president, prime minister, and Senate.
Regarding the appointment of the army chief, Gohar denied accusations of PTI attempting to sabotage the process. He clarified that any leader’s statement on the matter is a personal opinion and emphasized the party’s commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with the army.
Gohar expressed PTI’s plan to file an intra-court appeal following the Supreme Court’s decision on the ‘bat’ symbol, citing legal gaps in the order and advocating for a larger bench in constitutional matters. He affirmed PTI’s commitment to remaining active in the assembly and collaborating with other parties post-elections for the country’s betterment. Gohar also called for a general amnesty for PTI leaders allegedly involved in the May 9 attacks, suggesting a judicial commission to investigate allegations without compromising the party’s unity.
