KARACHI: The German Consulate General has announced a major shift in its visa processing system by moving student and employment visas to the Consular Services Portal. The consulate aims to accelerate processing times and increase the number of visas issued under the new digital mechanism.
Officials confirmed that all existing waiting lists have been closed and will be deleted permanently. Applicants who already hold scheduled appointments must still attend them under the previous system, ensuring continuity during the transition.
New Submission Requirements Begin December 12
The consulate instructed all remaining applicants to start their visa process through the Consular Services Portal. The online submission window will open on December 12, 2025, marking a complete switch to digital documentation for these categories.
Student visa applicants can now submit their forms through the portal at digital.diplo.de/studium. The consulate has also directed applicants for employment, training, jobseeker and other long-term visas to file applications at digital.diplo.de/visa-ewt. These dedicated portals will centralize submissions and minimize delays created by manual processing.
Digital Transition Aims to Simplify Procedure
The move reflects Germany’s broader effort to modernize visa procedures and enhance user experience for applicants worldwide. By eliminating paper-based waiting lists and introducing digital filing, the consulate plans to streamline all relevant categories and reduce administrative bottlenecks.
Officials expect the system to handle a higher volume of applications and shorten decision timelines. They also aim to enhance transparency by giving applicants clearer, real-time updates on their application status. The transition underscores Germany’s commitment to digitizing consular operations and making visa processing more efficient for students, skilled workers and jobseekers.
