Germany has initiated the second stage of the Skilled Worker Immigration Law, providing an avenue for skilled foreign workers to settle in the country and pursue work in their respective fields.
This significant development, effective as of Friday, aims to streamline the process for foreign professionals, acknowledging their crucial role in Germany’s future sustainability and prosperity.
Nancy Faeser, the federal minister of the interior and homeland, emphasized the importance of skilled workers for the nation’s well-being, stating, “We are reducing bureaucratic hurdles and making Germany more attractive for foreign skilled workers – for example in nursing, where we need a lot of staff.”
This recent phase builds upon the first stage, which was implemented in November 2023 and focused on the ‘EU Blue Card’ and recognized skilled workers. The latest stage facilitates the entry of foreigners with two years of professional experience and either a professional or university degree, providing them with opportunities to contribute to Germany’s workforce.
The third stage of the Skilled Worker Immigration Law is set to take effect on June 1, 2024, introducing the job search opportunity card. This card will further enhance the flexibility for foreign workers seeking employment in Germany.
Faeser assured that Germany is committed to attracting the skilled workforce it urgently requires, aligning with the nation’s economic needs and ensuring a seamless integration process for foreign professionals.
This strategic approach underscores Germany’s proactive stance in addressing labor market demands and fostering a diverse, skilled workforce to bolster its future growth and competitiveness.
