ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has issued a stern warning to the federal and Punjab governments, threatening to dispatch police to the residences of Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari and others if they fail to rectify their behavior.
Gandapur directed his words towards Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and President Asif Ali Zardari, cautioning them to desist from making threats, lest they face police intervention at their homes.
This statement from the chief minister follows the issuance of non-bailable warrants by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Malik Ijaz Asif for his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots.
Alongside CM Gandapur, warrants were also issued for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Murad Saeed, Shibli Faraz, Shahbaz Gill, and retired Lieutenant Colonel Shabbir Awan.
Former PTI members Shireen Mazari, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, and Saad Jamil Abbasi were also named in the warrants.
Addressing the issue in Dera Ismail Khan, Gandapur dismissed the First Information Reports (FIRs) against him as “fake,” stressing that both the federal and Punjab governments must correct their course to function smoothly.
“We are showing restraint,” he remarked, asserting that attempts by the federal and Punjab governments to incite confrontation with the KP government would not be tolerated.
Emphasizing the strength of the people of KP, Gandapur warned CM Maryam against provocative actions, noting, “It is not our custom to speak ill of women.”
Despite a recent amicable meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during which the need for political dialogue was highlighted, Gandapur’s statements remain assertive.
Prime Minister Sharif had instructed the KP CM to pursue discussions for the province’s rights at various federal forums, while also collaborating with security agencies on security-related matters.
