The federal government has announced a major initiative for students in Karachi, with spokesperson Raja Ansari confirming that free laptops will soon be distributed as part of a broader development agenda.
Ansari revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to launch this project in December at a special event to be held at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam. During the ceremony, laptops will be handed out to students, marking a step forward in promoting education and digital access.
According to the announcement, the initiative is not a stand-alone measure but part of a larger package of 22 mega projects for Karachi, with a combined worth of 334 billion rupees.
These projects aim to address the long-standing developmental needs of the city and demonstrate the federal government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and public facilities.
Ansari emphasized that the government is working closely with the Sindh administration to ensure the success of these initiatives. He clarified that the efforts are not about political point-scoring but about genuine collaboration to uplift Karachi. In his remarks, he also appreciated Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, describing him as a positive influence in the province’s governance.
The announcement highlights a rare moment of cooperation between the federal and Sindh governments, which have often been at odds over Karachi’s development.
Ansari stressed that the federal government wants to work in partnership not only with the provincial authorities but also with the city’s mayor to ensure that the projects are effectively implemented.
With this step, the federal government hopes to not only empower students through technology but also send a clear message that Karachi remains a priority in national development plans.
The free laptop scheme, coupled with the launch of 22 mega projects, signals a comprehensive effort to address both educational and infrastructural challenges faced by the country’s largest city.
