A tragic boat accident off the coast of Libya has claimed the lives of at least 11 migrants, with four Pakistani nationals confirmed among the deceased.
According to a report submitted by the Pakistani Embassy in Libya to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident took place on April 12 near the Harawa coast, close to the eastern city of Sirte.
Authorities have so far recovered 11 bodies, with four identified as Pakistani citizens. A team from the Pakistani Embassy traveled to Sirte to verify the identities using national identification documents.
The identified victims include Zahid Mahmood, son of Liaqat Ali, from Gujranwala, and Sameer Ali (son of Raja Abdul Qadeer), Syed Ali Hussain (son of Shafqat-ul-Hassanain), and Asif Ali (son of Nazar Muhammad), all from Mandi Bahauddin.
Of the remaining victims, two bodies are yet to be identified, while five have been confirmed as Egyptian nationals.
The Pakistani Embassy is coordinating with local authorities to obtain more information and ensure necessary follow-up.
