ISLAMABAD: Four militants were killed on Friday after they attacked a security forces’ camp in the Boya area of North Waziristan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police officials said. According to initial reports, the attackers managed to breach the camp’s outer perimeter and opened fire, prompting an immediate response from security personnel stationed at the site.
As a result, a fierce exchange of fire followed inside the camp. Security forces successfully neutralised all four assailants, while four personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation. Authorities shifted the injured to nearby medical facilities, where doctors described their condition as stable.
Police officials said early information suggested the attackers attempted to carry out the assault using either an explosives-laden vehicle or a suicide jacket. Investigators are continuing to examine the exact method used during the attack.
An explosion was heard miles away
Local sources reported that a powerful blast occurred during the attack, with the sound heard as far as Miranshah city, nearly 25 kilometres from the site. The explosion triggered panic in surrounding areas, prompting residents to remain indoors as security forces moved swiftly to secure the zone.
Soon after the blast, security forces sealed off the entire area and launched a comprehensive clearance operation. A heavy contingent of police and law enforcement personnel reached the site to ensure no additional attackers were present.
Meanwhile, special teams from the bomb disposal squad arrived to examine the camp and its surroundings for explosives or unexploded devices. Officials said these measures aimed to prevent further casualties and restore security in the volatile region.
Rescue and investigation efforts underway
Rescue 1122 teams and medical staff also reached the scene to assist the injured and support emergency operations. Authorities confirmed that evidence collection had begun, with investigators gathering forensic material to determine the attackers’ identities and affiliations.
Officials said the investigation would focus on tracing possible links to militant networks operating in the region. Security agencies have intensified intelligence-based operations to prevent follow-up attacks.
Following the incident, authorities placed the entire district on high alert. As a precautionary step, officials temporarily suspended traffic on a key highway passing through the area to facilitate security movement and reduce civilian risk.
Part of ongoing security challenge
The latest attack comes just two months after security forces foiled a similar suicide assault on a military camp in North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area. In that incident, four terrorists were killed after one attacker rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the camp’s wall while three others attempted to storm the premises.
Friday’s incident also highlights the broader security challenges facing Pakistan. Earlier this year, Pakistan ranked second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with deaths from terrorist attacks increasing by 45 per cent compared to the previous year, underscoring the continued threat posed by militant violence.
