Retired US Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt has stated that Washington’s increasing closeness with Pakistan is largely a response to India’s perceived arrogance. Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Kimmitt highlighted the cordial relationship between President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing it as a “bromance” that should give New Delhi pause.
“India’s arrogance that’s been displayed to President Trump manifests itself in the fact that we are now becoming much closer to Pakistan,” Kimmitt said, emphasizing that the US-Pakistan alignment reflects frustration with India’s approach toward Washington.
The retired general noted that President Trump’s friendly ties with Field Marshal Munir mark a significant shift in regional dynamics, particularly in light of recent tensions between India and Pakistan.
The strain between India and Trump reportedly escalated after the US president claimed he had prevented a nuclear war, a statement that India rejected, insisting the ceasefire was agreed directly between the two countries.
The tensions peaked during a June 17 phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which occurred after Trump left the Group of Seven summit early, preventing a face-to-face meeting with Modi.
Field Marshal Munir visited the US in June, holding a rare one-on-one meeting with Trump in the White House Cabinet Room. The visit occurred amid an armed Pakistan-India conflict, during which Washington facilitated a ceasefire following Indian airstrikes inside Pakistan, which New Delhi claimed targeted perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Pakistan responded with Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, downing multiple Indian fighter jets.
Despite these developments, PM Modi has maintained that India-US ties remain strong. In a social media post, Modi expressed optimism over the bilateral relationship, calling it a “very positive and forward-looking comprehensive and global strategic partnership.”
Trump similarly reassured reporters, stating, “India and the United States have a special relationship. There is nothing to worry about,” downplaying earlier remarks about “losing India” to China while affirming his personal friendship with Modi.
Kimmitt’s remarks underscore how perceived Indian arrogance may have inadvertently strengthened US-Pakistan relations, signaling a notable shift in regional geopolitics.
