A revolutionary flying car, seen as a potential solution to urban traffic congestion, has successfully completed its inaugural flight. According to reports, the vehicle, which costs Rs8.4 crore ($300,000), can also be driven on regular roads.
Equipped with propellers hidden in both the bonnet and trunk, the car can seamlessly transition from driving to flying. Alef Aeronautics, a U.S.-based company, shared a video of the car in flight, making it appear as if it’s straight out of a science fiction movie. The flying car can travel 354 kilometers on the road on a single charge and 177 kilometers when airborne.
The car employs Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) technology, with mesh-covered propeller blades that enable vertical lift-off. For testing, the company used a lightweight prototype of the Alef Model Zero. CEO Jim Dukhovny compared this milestone to the Wright brothers’ first flight in 1903, calling it a pivotal moment in urban transportation technology.
Alef Aeronautics, a California-based startup, is aiming to begin production of its Model A flying car by early 2026.
Following the release of the flight video, social media was buzzing with excitement. One user remarked, “This is exactly how I imagined flying cars when I was four!” while another joked, “Not sure if parallel parking just got easier or even more difficult.”
With this remarkable breakthrough, the era of flying cars is now closer than ever.
