ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Health (NIH) today denied the reports of first Omicron case detection in Karachi. In a statement today, NIH said that no case of Omicron, the new variant of coronavirus, has been confirmed in Pakistan as yet. National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad is capable of detecting the Omicron virus through genome sequencing of the blood sample of the patient.

Responding to media reports of a โsuspected caseโ of Omicron variant reported in a female patient, the NIH clarified, โthe sample is not yet confirmed to be Omicron via whole genome sequencing, which is to be performed after obtaining the sample.โ
Sindh Health Department today reported that a female patient with a travel history has been diagnosed with the Omicron variant at a private hospital in Karachi.
It said that Health Department officials are trying to find out her travel history and contacts after she was discharged from hospital and isolating at her home.
