RAWALPINDI: Police have registered the first FIR in the city against an owner who rented out his house to an Afghan national without official registration. The Morgah Police Station registered the FIR a day after the chief minister, Maryam Nawaz, ordered a crackdown against illegal foreigners living in the province, under the Punjab Temporary Residents Act 2015.
Landlord and Tenant Identified
Police identified the landlord as Chaudhry Adil. They said he failed to report the tenancy to the authorities, which is mandatory. The Afghan tenant’s name is Muhammad Amin, son of Rasool Khan.
Arrest and Transfer to Refugee Center
Rawalpindi police arrested Amin on the spot during the operation and moved him to the Refugee Center in Dhoke Syedan for further action.
Broader Crackdown in Punjab
Moreover, officials stated the action was part of an ongoing crackdown against undocumented foreign nationals living in Punjab. Authorities aim to ensure all tenants are properly registered with local police.
Maryam Nawaz’s Strict Directive
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed law enforcement agencies to take legal action against anyone who rents property to Afghan nationals or other foreigners staying illegally in the province. She ordered complete enforcement of tenant registration rules across all districts.
Compliance Urged
Police also urged property owners to verify documentation before renting homes to foreign nationals. They warned that further violations will result in strict action.
