Karachi โ A fire broke out in the basement of a shopping mall on Tariq Road on Tuesday, prompting an immediate emergency response, local media reported. Authorities quickly dispatched five fire brigade vehicles, which managed to bring the blaze under control before it spread further.
Swift response limits damage to shops
According to Chief Fire Officer Humayun, the fire damaged two to three shops located in the basement area. However, firefighters acted promptly and prevented the flames from reaching upper floors of the mall. As a result, officials avoided a potentially larger disaster in one of Karachiโs busiest commercial zones.
Meanwhile, rescue teams worked continuously to extinguish the fire and secure the site. Despite the controlled outcome, two firefighters experienced health complications while battling the blaze. Emergency personnel provided immediate assistance, and officials continue to monitor their condition.
Community recognizes firefightersโ efforts
In response to the swift action, the Market Association announced financial rewards for the firefighting team. The association allocated Rs1 million collectively for the fire brigade personnel in recognition of their timely intervention.
Additionally, officials granted a separate reward of Rs200,000 to firefighter Iskandar, whose condition worsened during the operation. The associationโs president praised the departmentโs rapid response and emphasized that their efforts prevented significant losses.
However, authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Investigators continue to assess the site to identify potential points that may have triggered the incident.
While the situation remains under control, officials urged shopkeepers to follow safety guidelines to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
