KARACHI: A sudden fire broke out on Monday at a busy superstore in one of Karachiโs posh neighborhoods.
The fire broke out at Imtiaz Super Store located on Zamzama Street in Defence Phase 5, near Zamzama Park. According to rescue officials, the fire broke out on the first floor as an ATM machine caught fire due to a short circuit. The fire then spread to other sections, including crockery, cosmetics, and clothes.
Fire brigade teams reached the location within a few minutes and deployed six fire tenders. The thick smoke and low visibility made it difficult for the firemen. The fire was raging in the basement area, and the firemen had to cut through doors to access the area and check if anyone was stuck inside.
The employees of the store attempted to control the fire with fire extinguishers as soon as the fire started. However, the fire spread too fast. The video footage of the fire showed thick flames near the ATM area.
Luckily, there were no casualties. The police and rescue teams confirmed that all the people inside the store came out safely.
Ongoing Efforts and Investigation
The firefighters are also busy putting out the remaining fires. Authorities have also advised people to avoid this area to allow firefighters to perform their duties without any disturbance.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is also underway. According to the initial report, it is believed to have occurred due to an electrical short circuit in the ATM.
The popular superstore is closed due to this fire incident. Authorities have said that they will issue a detailed report after completing the investigation.
This is another reminder of how important it is to have strong fire safety measures in place in busy areas of Karachi.
