Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing defence and military cooperation with Egypt, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday.
Pakistan and Egypt share a deep-rooted bilateral relationship, further strengthened by recent engagements between their leadership. In May, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi expressed his desire to expand ties with Pakistan during a phone call with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Last week, both nations also agreed to bolster cooperation in maritime and industrial sectors to encourage joint ventures and promote their blue economies.
According to the military’s media wing, Field Marshal Munir met Egyptian defence officials to discuss “matters of mutual interest, regional security, and bilateral defence cooperation.”
During his official visit, he called on Egypt’s Minister of Defence and Defence Production General Abdul Maged Saqar and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi.
“Field Marshal affirmed that Egypt is a brotherly country and cooperation between the two states will not only benefit their people but also contribute to peace and stability in the region,” said the ISPR statement.
Munir was accorded a Guard of Honour at Egypt’s Ministry of Defence, followed by a visit to the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier and the grave of former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat, where he laid floral wreaths in tribute.
The army chief also met Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El Tayab, where both leaders discussed the challenges confronting the Muslim Ummah. Field Marshal Munir underscored the need to eradicate extremist ideologies and misinterpretations of Islam.
Earlier this year, Field Marshal Munir met US President Donald Trump at the White House, and in August, he received a war medal from Azerbaijan’s defence minister, highlighting his active diplomatic and defence engagements.
