ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency has made it mandatory for Pakistanis traveling abroad for work to present an affidavit signed by a Grade 18 or Grade 19 government officer.
Affidavit Must Confirm Legal Employment
The affidavit must state that the passenger will work only at the designated job location. It must also confirm that they will not attempt illegal entry into Europe, according to the latest media reports.
Moreover, FIA teams have offloaded around 150 passengers from flights at Lahore and other airports within a week. Officials said the passengers failed to provide the required verification.
Move Targets Human Smuggling Routes
An FIA officer at Lahore Airport said many travelers first fly to Dubai, Bahrain, Thailand, or Saudi Arabia. Later, they attempt to reach Europe illegally through Libya or Baku. Therefore, officials introduced stricter checks.
Verification Support at Airports
Additionally, the Protectorate of Emigrants has deployed inspectors at airports. They are verifying documents and helping legitimate workers complete the process. Passengers traveling through the Overseas Employment Corporation are cleared quickly. However, those linked with private recruitment agencies must wait for verification.
Travellers Call Rule Unfair
Many passengers criticised the new rule. They said it creates unnecessary hurdles despite their valid visas and travel documents.
