ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency arrested six officers of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency on Monday. Their lawyer alleged that they misused authority and accepted bribes. Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq confirmed their detention and said they would appear before a district court on Tuesday. He added that he would represent them in the proceedings.
Ashfaq identified the arrested officials as Additional Director Chaudhry Sarfraz, In-charge Zawar, Sub-Inspector Ali Raza, Assistant Director Shoaib Riaz, Yasir Gujjar, and Mujtaba Kamran.
Removed Earlier Over Controversies
Authorities removed Sarfraz last month after several controversies. He was asked to report to the NCCIA headquarters in Islamabad. Sarfraz stated that he was transferred and had applied for six months of leave.
The controversies included actions against YouTubers and social media influencers. Those cases involved unregulated online trading and illegal gambling applications. Another incident related to legal action against lawyers accused of securing a suspect’s release. A third matter involved a dispute between journalists and senior police officers in Lahore. According to officials, multiple complaints triggered Sarfraz’s transfer.
Missing Deputy Director Case Adds Pressure
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court has asked police to trace Deputy Director Muhammad Usman. He has been missing since October 14. His wife, Rozina Usman, filed a petition seeking his recovery. She alleged that four armed men abducted him.
However, police informed the court that Rozina had also gone missing after filing the petition. The court ordered an updated report on both disappearances within one week, increasing pressure on investigators.
