During a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the federal cabinet approved key proposals for the Federal Budget 2025-26, including a 10% salary increase for government employees and a 7% rise in pensions for retirees.
The Finance Bill 2025-26 was also approved during the session, which includes several measures aimed at offering relief to the salaried class. Sources revealed that the government had been evaluating three proposals for salary hikesโ6%, 10%, and 15%โbefore finalizing the 10% increment.
Government employees had strongly urged the administration to adjust salaries in line with inflation, with some representatives demanding up to a 50% increase. They warned that failing to meet these expectations could lead to widespread protests. Despite fiscal constraints cited by the Finance Ministry, which had initially advocated for minimal increases, the government decided on a moderate raise in response to growing public pressure.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also used the occasion to extend heartfelt greetings to the nation and the global Muslim community on the occasions of Hajj and Eid-ul-Adha. He emphasized unity and resilience in overcoming challenges.
Turning to global issues, the Prime Minister strongly condemned the ongoing violence in Palestine and Kashmir. He called for immediate international intervention to enforce a ceasefire, stating, “No condemnation is enough for the brutality inflicted on innocent women, children, and the elderly.” He reaffirmed Pakistanโs unwavering support for the people of both regions, expressing hope that their sacrifices would ultimately result in freedom.
On domestic matters, the Prime Minister acknowledged the resilience of the Pakistani people, particularly the salaried class, over the past 18 months of economic hardship. He noted that Rs400 billion had been added to the national treasury, marking a step forward in economic recovery. He expressed optimism about Pakistanโs future, highlighting improving inflation indicators reported by international observers.
Addressing recent regional tensions, the Prime Minister remarked that Pakistan had stood its ground against a powerful military and economic rival. He asserted that Pakistan would rise above its challenges and attain its rightful place on the global stage, urging national unity in this pursuit.
Speaking on water security, he firmly rejected the notion of water being used as a geopolitical weapon and praised the efforts of the Deputy Prime Minister, key ministers, and experts in addressing water-related issues.
He also commended the finance minister and the relevant teams for swiftly preparing the Federal Budget 2025-26, calling it a reflection of the governmentโs commitment to meeting the nationโs needs.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on all citizens to come together in building a prosperous and respected Pakistan on the global stage.
