Historic Win for Pakistan’s Boxing Star
Pakistan’s rising boxing sensation, Fatima Zahra, has brought national pride by winning the country’s first medal at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Her triumph came after storming into the semifinals of the women’s -60 kg category.
Dominant Performance in the Quarterfinals
The 27-year-old boxer from Sargodha displayed complete dominance against Algeria’s Hamda Melissa, securing a 5–0 victory in the quarterfinal bout. With this win, Fatima guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal — Pakistan’s first confirmed podium finish at the ongoing event.
Composure and Skill Define the Victory
Fatima’s sharp jabs and precise footwork overwhelmed her Algerian opponent from the opening round. Despite Melissa’s aggressive comeback in the later rounds, the Pakistani boxer maintained her composure and control, comfortably claiming all three rounds.
A Consistent Career of Excellence
Since beginning her boxing journey in 2018, Fatima has risen steadily through dedication and performance. She has held the national champion title in her weight category for four consecutive years and represented Pakistan at major international events, including the Asian Games and Olympic qualifiers.
Pakistan’s Representation at the Games
Pakistan has sent 55 athletes to this year’s Islamic Solidarity Games, competing in disciplines such as Athletics, Wushu, Swimming, Boxing, Karate, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.
A New Chapter for Women’s Boxing in Pakistan
Fatima’s semifinal schedule will be announced soon. However, her achievement has already made history, inspiring a new generation of Pakistani women to pursue boxing with pride and passion.
