After almost five years, Facebook is officially reentering the job market. Meta has relaunched its job listings feature, focusing on local, service-based, and trade employment to help small businesses connect with nearby job seekers.
Job Listings Integrated Into Marketplace and Groups
Meta confirmed that job listings are now available through Facebook Marketplace, with plans to display them across community groups soon. Businesses can also post job openings directly on their Facebook Pages, giving them multiple options to reach potential candidates.
The feature acts as a digital “Help Wanted” sign, helping businesses find local workers quickly. It is currently available to users aged 18 and older. Early listings in Seattle show small restaurants and shops using the tool for casual hiring.
Meta Issues Strict Posting Guidelines
Meta has issued clear rules for posting jobs on Facebook. All listings must follow Facebook’s Community Standards, excluding roles related to adult services, drugs, or in-person childcare.
The updated policy also emphasizes anti-discrimination compliance. Meta introduced these measures after past controversies where job ads were used to exclude candidates based on gender, religion, or age. Now, every job post must align with Meta’s fair employment policy.
Feature Returns After a Five-Year Gap
Facebook first launched job listings in 2017 across the U.S. and Canada, expanding to over 40 countries by 2018. However, by 2022, Meta restricted the feature to North American users and fully discontinued it in 2023.
Even after the shutdown, some businesses continued posting jobs using paid ads, a workaround that raised targeting and fairness concerns. Meta’s relaunch aims to simplify and regulate the process for all users.
Meta’s Community-Driven Strategy
Meta’s decision to restore the feature reflects its renewed focus on community engagement. Facebook remains strong in local interactions, especially within Marketplace and Groups, making it ideal for neighborhood hiring.
The company believes the platform can fill a unique gap between professional networks like LinkedIn and mass job boards like Indeed. The feature primarily targets entry-level and trade roles, encouraging grassroots employment connections.
Available Now for U.S. Users
The reintroduced job listings are currently available only in the United States. Meta described the rollout as a “community-first employment feature”, signaling plans for possible expansion later.
For now, U.S. users can browse openings through Marketplace, community groups, or business pages, making Facebook once again a bridge between employers and job seekers.
