Brad Pitt’s Formula One racing drama, F1, continues to make waves at the global box office, recently surpassing the big-budget 2018 Chinese action film Operation Red Sea. With a worldwide haul of over $579 million, F1 has already established itself as the highest-grossing film of Brad Pitt’s career, overtaking his previous top performer, the 2013 zombie thriller World War Z. In addition, it has eclipsed several major 2025 releases, including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Sinners, ranking it as the eighth-highest-grossing film of the year so far.
According to Box Office Mojo, F1 has now edged past Operation Red Sea by approximately $247,000 in global earnings, with the racing drama earning $180.2 million in North America and $399.4 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $579.6 million.
In comparison, Operation Red Sea, which had a limited North American release of $1.5 million, collected $577.8 million internationally for a total of $579.3 million worldwide. The close contest between these two films underscores F1’s international appeal and its continued box office momentum.
While F1 has overtaken Operation Red Sea, it is still trailing behind a number of other iconic Hollywood releases in terms of lifetime earnings. Films like Monsters, Inc. ($579.8 million), I Am Legend ($585.5 million), Iron Man ($585.8 million), The Hangover Part II ($586.8 million), The Croods ($587.3 million), Men in Black ($589.4 million), and Quantum of Solace ($589.6 million) continue to occupy higher positions on the all-time box office charts. If F1 maintains its current performance, it is poised to surpass Monsters, Inc. and potentially challenge other major Hollywood hits in the near future.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 tells the story of Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a former Formula One driver whose career slowed after a devastating crash in the 1990s. Years later, he is approached by his old friend and struggling F1 team owner, Ruben (Javier Bardem), to return to the track and mentor a young, talented driver, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).
