Pakistani Delegation Targeted
Israeli forces arrested Ex-Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, according to the Palestine Action Coalition of Pakistan. He was leading Pakistan’s delegation in the Global Sumud Flotilla, a mission delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Flotilla Interceptions Continue
Israeli forces intercepted 13 boats carrying activists and aid for Gaza. However, nearly 30 boats continue sailing towards the besieged Palestinian enclave. Organisers confirmed that dozens of vessels remain on course, with some less than 50 kilometers from Gaza’s coast.
A video released by the Israeli foreign ministry, verified by Reuters, showed climate activist Greta Thunberg surrounded by soldiers on a flotilla deck. Israel later stated that passengers were “safe and healthy” and were being moved to a port.
Pakistan Condemns Israeli Aggression
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned Israel’s actions and demanded the immediate release of Pakistani volunteers. The Foreign Office echoed this stance, calling the interception “part of Israel’s ongoing pattern of aggression and its illegal blockade of Gaza.”
Humanitarian Mission Under Attack
The Global Sumud Flotilla includes more than 40 civilian boats transporting food and medicine to Gaza. Nearly 500 parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists joined the mission, stressing its peaceful humanitarian nature.
Videos shared on Telegram showed participants holding passports, declaring they were abducted, and reaffirming their mission’s non-violent character. Activists insisted they sought only to break the blockade and provide essential supplies.
Global Reactions and Symbolism
The flotilla has become a powerful symbol of opposition to Israel’s Gaza blockade. Its journey across the Mediterranean attracted worldwide attention. Nations like Turkey, Spain, and Italy even prepared boats and drones to protect their citizens if needed.
Meanwhile, Israel repeatedly warned the flotilla to turn back. Despite this, many vessels remain determined to complete their journey, highlighting international resistance to Israel’s policies in Gaza.
