Australian sports presenter Erin Holland has spoken openly about the personal challenges of maintaining a long-distance marriage with cricketer Ben Cutting, saying the arrangement has made balancing work and family life increasingly difficult. Appearing on a recent podcast, the 36-year-old television host said the coupleโs demanding careers have kept them living apart for most of their five-year marriage.
Holland explained that she spends four nights each week in Sydney for work commitments and flies to Brisbane every weekend to be with her husband. As a result, the pair have rarely shared a home for extended periods. She noted that the only time they lived together for more than a few weeks was during the Covid pandemic, describing their relationship as a long-distance marriage since the beginning.
While discussing her professional schedule, Holland also shared details of her emotional fertility journey. Over the past four years, she has undergone 12 rounds of in vitro fertilisation, which she described as physically and mentally exhausting. She said repeated miscarriages and failed IVF attempts have brought significant loss and uncertainty, making it harder to plan for the future.
Couple rely on understanding amid uncertainty
Holland said the ongoing fertility struggle has added pressure to an already challenging lifestyle. She admitted that after years of treatment, the absence of clear outcomes has made it difficult to maintain normal routines and personal wellbeing. Despite the setbacks, she continues to pursue her career while hoping to start a family.
Moreover, Holland credited mutual understanding as the foundation of her marriage. She said both partners accept the realities of each otherโs professions, comparing their situation to families accustomed to FIFO work arrangements. That shared acceptance, she added, has helped sustain their relationship.
Holland and Cutting married in Byron Bay in 2021 during the pandemic, choosing a small ceremony amid restrictions.
