Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on pop star Taylor Swift on Sunday, declaring his “hate” for her just days after she endorsed his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.
In a heated all-caps post on his Truth Social media account, Trump exclaimed, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
This outburst followed last week’s debate between Trump and Harris. Shortly afterward, Swift, who has 284 million Instagram followers, announced her support for Harris, the U.S. vice president. Swift cited Harris’s advocacy for causes she believes need a strong champion.
Initially, Trump dismissed Swift’s endorsement, commenting that he was “not a Taylor fan.” However, as polls began to show Harris gaining momentum, Trump’s rhetoric intensified against Swift, one of the world’s most successful musicians.
Swift’s endorsement has garnered over 9 million “likes” on Instagram, sparking speculation that her support could give Harris a boost in the tight Nov. 5 election.
In response to Trump’s post, Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz, took to X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Swifties: With your help, we’re gonna defeat the smallest man who ever lived.” The remark referenced one of Swift’s songs titled “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.”
Swift’s support has sparked a wave of responses, with many proclaiming on X, “I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT,” while Trump’s defenders criticized the Biden administration.
The Trump-Swift feud dates back years. After Swift endorsed Democrats in the 2018 elections, Trump remarked that he liked her music “about 25% less” than before.
