Renowned Pakistani model and actress Sarwat Gillani has bravely opened up about her battle with postpartum depression, shedding light on a topic often kept in the shadows. During a recent appearance on a private TV show, Gillani shared her emotional journey following the birth of her third child, a daughter, which has since captivated social media.
Gillani, a mother of three, disclosed that while she did not experience postpartum depression after the births of her sons, Rohan and Ariz, her experience with her daughter was markedly different and profoundly challenging. Due to complications from surgery, she was unable to meet her newborn daughter for four agonizing days, which intensified her emotional distress. Witnessing her baby struggle with breastfeeding further exacerbated her anguish.
“I had thoughts of letting her go to end all the pain and trouble,” Gillani revealed tearfully, recounting the overwhelming thoughts she grappled with during that tumultuous time.
It was her husband, actor and renowned plastic surgeon Fahad Mirza, whom she confided in about these distressing thoughts. Mirza recognized the signs of postpartum depression and provided unwavering support, assuring her that such thoughts were a common manifestation of the condition and temporary in nature. His understanding and reassurance helped Gillani navigate through her darkest moments.
Gillani and Mirza, who married in 2014, are proud parents to their sons Rohan Mirza and Ariz Muhammad Mirza. The arrival of their daughter in December 2023 brought both joy and profound challenges, marking a poignant chapter in Gillani’s motherhood journey.
