Film enthusiasts throughout Pakistan are in for a treat as the 3rd European Film Festival (EUFF) 2024 gears up to captivate audiences with an array of unique, never-before-seen films from across Europe. Commencing on May 15 at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad, the festival will then travel to Peshawar, Quetta, and Gujrat, offering a cinematic extravaganza until May 29.
Over 20 films from European Union member states will grace the screens, spanning diverse genres such as comedy, thrillers, documentaries, and fiction. These films delve into a myriad of themes including family, romance, history, climate change, human rights, and more, ensuring there’s something for every palate. Additionally, Pakistani short films by emerging talents will add local flavor to the lineup, enriching the cultural tapestry.
Beyond the screenings, each city will host engaging panel discussions featuring stalwarts from Pakistan’s film and television industry. In Islamabad, luminaries like playwright Bee Gul, actor Sarwat Gilani, and rising star Ali Junejo will explore the power of cinema in shaping global perspectives, moderated by presenter Omar Khalid Butt. Similar discussions will ensue in other cities, featuring renowned personalities and thought-provoking topics.
Adding to the festival’s allure, budding filmmaker Ali Junejo will conduct a masterclass titled “Decoding European Cinema,” aimed at nurturing local talent and fostering a deeper understanding of world cinema.
Moreover, interactive installations and diverse food stalls will cater to the recreational and gastronomic needs of attendees, ensuring a holistic cultural experience.
