Actor Danish Taimoor has sparked backlash on social media following his comments about men’s right to marry up to four times, which many netizens have deemed unnecessary and inappropriate.
The controversy unfolded during a special Ramazan transmission on a local television channel, where Taimoor was co-hosting alongside former news anchor Rabia Anam. His wife, actress Ayeza Khan, was also present on the show.
During the discussion, Taimoor made a remark regarding men’s entitlement to four marriages, saying, “Men have the right to marry up to four times, but I haven’t done it yet. That’s a different story.” He then added, “I won’t do it because I love and respect my wife, even though I still have the right.” The comment quickly drew criticism from viewers, who found it insensitive and self-centered, particularly given the presence of his wife on the show.
Social media users were quick to point out that while Islam permits multiple marriages under specific conditions, these conditions are often overlooked in such discussions. One user commented, “Men always highlight their right to marry four times but conveniently forget the conditions attached.” Others criticized the timing and setting of the remark, with one viewer stating, “Why even mention this when your wife is sitting right there? This was uncomfortable to watch.”
Despite the online backlash, Taimoor has yet to address the criticism. The discussion continues to gain traction on social media, with many urging public figures to be more mindful when discussing sensitive topics in the public eye.
Danish Taimoor and Ayeza Khan, who have been married since 2014 and share two children, are widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most admired celebrity couples. Their relationship, known for its stability and mutual respect, makes Taimoor’s recent comments even more controversial.
