Kesha Returns to Party Persona in First Song Since Dr. Luke Lawsuit

Kesha has released her first song since resolving a lengthy legal dispute with music producer Dr. Luke. The artist, known for hits like “Tik Tok” from her 2009 debut album “Animal,” returns with “Joyride,” blending her signature style with new production, offering fans a taste of newfound creative freedom under her newly-launched label, Kesha Records.

“Joyride” serves as the lead single from her upcoming sixth studio album. Kesha, 37, faced a highly-publicized legal battle with Dr. Luke beginning in October 2014, when she accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her, which she stated contributed to her development of an eating disorder. Dr. Luke denied these allegations and counter-sued Kesha for defamation.

The legal conflict included Kesha dropping a separate case against Dr. Luke in Los Angeles after a New York judge dismissed her abuse claims in April 2016, citing statute of limitations issues. Finally, in June 2023, Kesha and Dr. Luke reached a confidential settlement, avoiding a trial after years of courtroom battles.

“Joyride” also marks Kesha’s first release since departing from Dr. Luke’s label, Kemosabe Records, in December 2023, following the completion of her contractual obligations with her last album, “Gag Order,” released in May of the same year.
