Iconic Pakistani actor Qavi Khan laid to rest in Canada

Qavi Khan, the iconic actor, was laid to rest at Meadowvale Cemetery in Brampton after saying his last funeral prayers at a mosque in Mississauga.

Khan died in Canada on Sunday at the age of 80.

He had been having therapy while living with his son for a few months.

Mufti Abdul Qayyum officiated the funeral prayers.

The late actor’s family, close relatives, and members of the Pakistani community attended the funeral.

Two seasoned performers, Mehmood Akhtar, and Shahid Hameed were also present.

Late on Sunday, Arts Council Karachi President Muhammad Ahmad Shah confirmed the passing of renowned actor Qavi Khan, who had been staying in Canada for his treatment.

Shah referred to Khan as a “great actor who had left an indelible mark on the showbiz industry.”

Moreover, The senior actor, who was suffering from cancer, was 80 years old and survived by four children.

Adnan Qavi, his son, announced that the funeral prayer details would be revealed later.

PM, Punjab CM sends condolences

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and prayed for Khan’s departed soul and patience for his family.

He also referred to Khan’s talent as recognized by the state through the Sitara-e-Imtiaz and the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.

Qavi Khan, who began his career with Radio Pakistan in Peshawar, appeared in more than 200 films and TV plays since the mid-1960s.

“Sitara-e-Imtiaz and President’s Award for Pride of Performance are recognition of his talent by the state,” he added. PM Shehbaz also said that the legendary actor proved his talent with his performance in films, TV, stage, and radio. The versatile actor’s performance in Laakhon Mein Teen and Andhera Ujala is still remembered by the people.

Taking to the microblogging site, Twitter, PTI Chairman Imran Khan wrote: “Saddened to learn of the passing of famous actor Qavi Khan. My prayers & condolences go to his family.”
