Cool Fashion: Meesha Shafi & Aagha Ali Advocate For Cooler Uniforms for Students & Security Guards This Summer

“Polyester uniforms have no place in our region, Normalise cotton/muslin shalwar kurtas, for School kids, guards, whoever.” – Meesha.

It’s way too hot to be anywhere but inside, and unlike some employers and schools who refuse to acknowledge the issue, Meesha Shafi and Aagha Ali not only recognize the problem but are making sure they’re talking about it too.

Ali used social media to express how upset he was with school administrations that called children in to kick off the academic year earlier despite the scorching heat.

“The heat is just killing these days,” he wrote. “I had to stop shooting as it was 44 degrees in Lahore and even in Islamabad today. Please have some mercy on the kids. Start schools after their summer vacations. This one week just for the fee? Have some shame, have some mercy!” he said furiously.

Shafi also discussed the heat and said in such weather, a lighter cloth such as cotton would prove to be a much better option for uniforms.

“Polyester uniforms have no place in our region. None,” she said. “Normalise cotton/muslin shalwar kurtas. School kids, guards…whoever.”

Given the hot and humid weather in Pakistan, we’re glad celebrities are using their platforms to advocate against harsh working conditions. Be it security guards or delivery workers, it is important to tailor uniforms to the weather and environment and realise that people need to be comfortable as well.

The same goes for students. Given the uncertainty of the pandemic, the health of our students should be our main priority and schools should try to continue online learning for as long as they can.
