Numerous social media users have expressed their support for women journalists following the arrest of YouTuber Dr. Umar Adil by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over allegations of using offensive language against a female anchor.
According to an FIA spokesperson, Dr. Adil was taken into custody by the Cyber Crime Wing in Lahore after the female anchor, who works for a private TV channel, filed a complaint. A formal case has been registered against him, and an investigation is currently ongoing.
Dr. Umar Adil is accused of making inappropriate comments about female anchors on social media, prompting legal action. His remarks during a podcast suggested that female anchors were merely decorative figures on television and lacked merit. This statement faced significant backlash from social media users and fellow journalists. Dr. Syeda Sadaf condemned his comments as an attack on all Pakistani women and questioned his moral integrity.
