QUETTA: Eight militants were killed and three security personnel sustained injuries in a counter-terrorism operation in the Darakshan area of Quetta. The Counter-Terrorism Department conducted the operation following intelligence about militant presence in the locality.
According to officials, the operation began after authorities received credible information about suspected militant activity.
However, militants reportedly opened fire upon sensing the approaching security teams. Forces retaliated immediately, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire that left eight militants dead. Meanwhile, three security personnel sustained injuries during the clash and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the operation yielded a significant recovery of arms and ammunition. Officials described the cache as substantial, indicating the group may have been planning future attacks. Furthermore, preliminary findings suggest the militants were affiliated with a banned organisation, though investigators have not yet disclosed its identity.
Search operation continues in surrounding areas
Security forces have sealed off the Darakshan locality and launched a follow-up search operation to locate any remaining militants or facilitators. Law enforcement agencies are conducting house-to-house sweeps and intelligence-based checks to prevent potential regrouping by the network.
Officials stressed that investigations remain ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying links, handlers, and possible sleeper cells in the region. The injured personnel are said to be in stable condition, according to initial medical updates.
The operation underscores continuing security challenges in parts of Balochistan, where authorities regularly conduct intelligence-led actions to disrupt militant networks. However, officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on extremist elements and preventing future threats through coordinated operations and enhanced surveillance.
