Ed Sheeran
In a surprise musical collaboration that has delighted fans across the globe, Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh have joined forces to deliver a soulful and culturally rich rendition of Sheeran’s summer hit, “Sapphire.” This new version blends the lyrical depth and melodic richness of Bollywood with Sheeran’s globally beloved pop-folk sound, creating a cross-cultural masterpiece that many are calling the collaboration we never knew we needed.
This version of Sapphire is more than just a remix—it’s a celebration of cultural diversity and artistic unity. Arijit Singh, renowned for his emotive voice and immense versatility, brings a unique flavor to the track, singing in a blend of Punjabi and Hindi.
His distinct vocal delivery and poetic depth add an entirely new dimension to the song. What makes it even more magical is Ed Sheeran himself joining in, singing part of the chorus in Hindi and Punjabi—a heartfelt gesture that reflects his growing affinity for South Asian music and languages.
Sheeran, who has previously collaborated with Indian music icon Diljit Dosanjh, has clearly developed a deep appreciation for the region’s musical traditions. His vocal performance in Sapphire’s latest version feels genuine and fluid, a testament to his time spent learning directly from Arijit Singh.
In a touching social media post, Sheeran shared the story of their collaboration, recalling a 24-hour “musical pilgrimage” to Jiaganj Azimganj, Arijit’s hometown in India. The journey included a boat ride through the scenic rivers of Bengal, hours of heartfelt musical exchange, and Arijit teaching Sheeran to sing in Punjabi and even play a few notes on the sitar.
“It was honestly one of the most amazing days in my musical career,” said Sheeran, who described the experience as deeply transformative. “It felt like the beginning of something bigger.”
Sheeran further expressed his admiration for Arijit, saying, “I love this version of the song. It’s the one I listen to every morning with my daughters because I love Arijit’s voice, tone, flow, and rhythm.”
With this beautiful rendition of Sapphire, Sheeran not only continues to break musical boundaries but also reinforces his commitment to inclusivity and cultural appreciation—an exciting glimpse into what his upcoming album Play promises to offer.
