Presidential Election
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a significant step in preparing for the upcoming presidential election on March 9 by appointing chief justices of the country’s high courts as presiding officers.
According to a notification issued by the ECP, the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court will serve as the presiding officer in the Senate and the National Assembly.
Additionally, the notification outlined the appointments of presiding officers for various assemblies, assigning ECP member Nisar Durrani as the presiding officer in the Punjab Assembly, the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court in the Sindh Assembly, the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, and the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court in the Balochistan Assembly.
The appointed presiding officers play a crucial role in the electoral process, receiving nominations from candidates and overseeing the polling process during the presidential election across the parliamentary and provincial assemblies.
Moreover, the Election Commission of Pakistan is set to announce the official date for the presidential polls on March 1.
This proactive approach by the ECP in appointing presiding officers demonstrates its commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process for the country’s top political position.
As preparations intensify, the appointments reflect a strategic move to uphold the integrity of the electoral system and ensure that the presidential election is conducted with efficiency and fairness.
The involvement of chief justices from high courts adds a layer of judicial oversight, reinforcing the commitment to a credible and democratic electoral process.
