The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule for the by-election in the PP-139 constituency of Ferozewala, which became vacant following the passing of PML-N MPA Rana Afzaal Hussain.
According to the ECP’s timeline, nomination papers will be available starting October 18. Candidates must submit their papers between October 21 and 24. The final list of candidates and their assigned election symbols will be published on November 12.
The by-election for PP-139 is scheduled for Thursday, December 5. The seat became vacant after the death of Rana Afzaal Hussain, a veteran politician and former Punjab Assembly member.
In the February general elections earlier this year, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain was elected from the same constituency but later vacated the seat, leading to the by-election won by Rana Afzaal, who received 48,850 votes against PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Ejaz Hussain Bhatti, who garnered 30,122 votes.
TLP candidate Rafaqat Ali received 4,809 votes.
District Returning Officer Shahid Imran Marth, along with Returning Officer Usman Jalees and Assistant Returning Officer Adeel Khan, has been appointed to oversee the by-election process in PP-139.
