Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a wide-ranging plan to revitalize Pakistan’s agriculture sector, starting with the rollout of accessible and transparent loan facilities for farmers.
Presiding over a high-level meeting on agricultural development in Islamabad, the prime minister highlighted the government’s commitment to adopt a public-private partnership approach. This strategy aims to simplify agricultural financing and support sector-wide growth initiatives. He also called for immediate reforms in the Agricultural Development Bank to make credit more accessible and transparent for farmers.
“The reform process will start by offering easy loans to farmers,” PM Shehbaz said, emphasizing that small-scale farmers should remain the main focus of both technological advancements and financial support.
He instructed that modern agricultural technologies be introduced, tailored to the needs of small landholders, and underlined the importance of using digital platforms to inform and educate farmers about contemporary farming practices and innovations.
Reaffirming the government’s long-term vision, the prime minister announced that upcoming Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) allocations would prioritize agricultural projects.
“Sustainable reforms in agriculture will significantly strengthen the national economy,” he added, reiterating the sector’s critical role as the backbone of Pakistan’s economic stability.
During the meeting, participants also discussed strategies to modernize farming through technology, improve credit access, and enhance institutional support for farmers.
