LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has achieved a historic milestone in revenue, reporting earnings of Rs 88 billion by the end of the fiscal year 2023-24, as per a report.
This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s revenue of Rs 63 billion, representing a remarkable 40 percent rise. The achievement is touted as unprecedented in the history of Pakistan Railways.
Initially, the government had set a revenue target of Rs 73 billion for the department at the start of the financial year.
The department surpassed this target with revenues distributed as follows: Rs 47 billion from passenger trains, Rs 28 billion from goods vehicles, and over Rs 13 billion from land and other sources.
CEO Railways Aamir Baloch attributed this success to the dedicated efforts of railway employees across various functions.
He expressed optimism and determination, setting an ambitious goal to elevate the railway’s income to Rs 1 trillion in the upcoming financial year.
The increase in revenue comes amidst ongoing efforts to modernize and improve Pakistan Railways’ operations and infrastructure.
Strategic initiatives and reforms have been implemented to enhance efficiency, reliability, and service quality, contributing to the substantial revenue growth.
Baloch highlighted the role of improved operational efficiency and customer service in attracting more passengers and increasing freight traffic.
These factors, coupled with effective utilization of railway assets and resources, have been instrumental in achieving the record revenue figure.
Looking ahead, Pakistan Railways aims to sustain its growth trajectory by continuing to invest in infrastructure upgrades, expanding service offerings, and leveraging technology to further optimize operations.
The organization remains committed to meeting the evolving transportation needs of the country while striving for financial sustainability and growth in the years to come.
