KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has begun collecting conical baffle charges as part of its geyser campaign.
According to reports, SSGC has added extra charges of Rs2,085 to consumer bills under the label “conical baffle” charges. Millions of consumers within the company’s 3.2 million customer base are upset over these additional fees. Many have reported receiving inflated bills even if they don’t have geysers installed in their homes, with charges applied before the installation of the baffles.
Following widespread complaints, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) clarified that the installation of conical baffles was authorized to enhance safety and help reduce gas bills for consumers.
The spokesperson urged customers charged without a geyser to file complaints with either SSGC or OGRA.
SSGC officials explained that surveys were conducted to assess the need for conical baffles, and charges were applied following OGRA’s approval. Contractors have already started the installation process.
Consumers are encouraged to visit their nearest Customer Facilitation Center (CFC) to address any concerns regarding the conical baffles.
It’s important to note that in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on January 5, 2023, regarding energy conservation, the Government of Pakistan, through the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), mandated both Sui companies to install conical baffles in existing geysers at customer premises.
