ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to roll out a simplified digital tax return system in Urdu and other regional languages to make tax filing more accessible to the general public.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) affairs on Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan into a stable global economy through sustainable institutional reforms.
During the meeting, the prime minister instructed authorities to engage internationally reputed firms for third-party validation of ongoing reforms within the FBR. He said these reforms are advancing swiftly across all sectors, with government institutions working hard to eliminate corruption and address transparency issues.
“The recent economic improvements clearly reflect the effectiveness of our policies,” said the prime minister. He expressed particular satisfaction with the performance of the newly introduced faceless customs assessment system, which he said has boosted transparency and revenue collection.
“We are committed to stabilizing Pakistan’s economy, and with God’s help, we will succeed,” he added.
Officials briefed the meeting on the positive outcomes of the faceless customs system, noting that it has significantly reduced clearance times and increased revenue. The reform agenda at Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) is also moving forward rapidly.
It was further revealed that a simplified digital tax return system will soon be launched for public use, with efforts underway to offer it in Urdu and other local languages to ensure ease of use for ordinary citizens.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, the FBR Chairman, and senior officials from relevant departments.
