ISLAMABAD: Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan (South) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of sugar from Pakistan to Afghanistan. The operation occurred in Killi Gharibabad, Nok Kundi, where authorities uncovered a significant cache of illegally stored sugar in a warehouse.
During the raid, 1,368 bags of sugar, weighing approximately 70 tons, were seized. The confiscated sugar is estimated to be worth 10 million rupees at current market rates.
Following the operation, the warehouse was sealed, and an FIR was registered against the smugglers.
The seized sugar and those involved in the smuggling attempt have been handed over to customs officials for further legal action.
This successful operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat cross-border smuggling and protect Pakistan’s economic interests.
Earlier, in a collaborative effort, Frontier Corps and Customs have carried out a joint operation at the Torkham border, thwarting an attempt to smuggle arms from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
The operation resulted in the interception of two cargo vehicles, within which illegal weapons were clandestinely hidden. Among the seized arsenal were three M16 rifles, two Beretta pistols, 4000 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and 8 AK-47 bolts.
Further inspection led to the discovery of five pistol magazines, 8000 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, 40 springs, and an additional pistol.
Following the successful operation, the drivers of the vehicles were promptly apprehended, and the confiscated weapons were handed over to Customs authorities for necessary legal action.
This joint operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat illicit activities, ensuring the safety and security of the border regions. Such proactive measures play a crucial role in curbing the flow of illegal arms and ammunition, thereby contributing to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region.
A few days earlier, Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by a group of terrorists trying to breach the country’s borders from Afghanistan. The operation resulted in the neutralization of at least seven terrorists.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced, “On 16th April 2024, security forces detected the movement of a group of seven terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Spinkai area of Ghulam Khan, North Waziristan District.”
Prompt action was taken as the infiltrators were swiftly surrounded and engaged by security forces. Following an intense exchange of gunfire, all seven terrorists were neutralized, effectively putting an end to the infiltration attempt, as confirmed by the ISPR statement.
