LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: A moderate earthquake shook Lahore, Islamabad, and many other parts of Pakistan on Friday evening.
The tremors were felt across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir. People rushed out of their homes in panic as the ground shook for several seconds.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was located near the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, close to the Pakistan border.
No casualties or major damage have been reported so far. However, many residents in high-rise buildings in Lahore and Islamabad described feeling strong shaking.
Social media was flooded with messages as people shared their experiences. Many described the quake as โquite strongโ and said it lasted around 20 to 30 seconds.
This is the second noticeable earthquake to hit parts of Pakistan in recent weeks. Earlier tremors were also linked to seismic activity in the Hindu Kush region.
The PMD has advised people to stay calm and follow safety guidelines in case of aftershocks. Residents in earthquake-prone areas have been asked to keep emergency kits ready and avoid unnecessary panic.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and have not issued any major alerts so far.
