Instant Purity Tests with AI-Powered Self-Service Kiosks
Dubai has unveiled the world’s first smart self-service kiosk that can test the purity of gold jewellery in under 60 seconds — setting a new global standard in the precious metals industry. Years after introducing the iconic gold-dispensing ATM, the city continues to lead with this latest innovation, aimed at boosting transparency and consumer trust.
A spokesperson from Dubai Municipality confirmed that the kiosk uses a blend of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The system delivers accurate, real-time results, showing the percentage of metals such as gold, silver, copper, and zinc in the tested item.
Users can receive their test report via SMS or a printed receipt, making it as simple and quick as using an ATM or cash deposit machine.
Enhancing Transparency in the Gold Trade
Officials say the smart kiosks will transform Dubai’s gold and jewellery market by offering instant, lab-grade purity verification that once took up to a week through the Dubai Central Laboratory.
“This innovation enhances transparency, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in the precious metals sector,” the spokesperson said, highlighting the kiosk’s role in reinforcing Dubai’s global reputation as a trusted gold trading hub.
As part of a broader initiative, the kiosks will soon be available in high-traffic areas like the Dubai Gold Souq and major shopping malls, giving tourists and residents convenient access to purity testing anytime.
This rollout follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG), aiming to make reliable testing widely accessible across the city.
By merging cutting-edge technology with everyday convenience, Dubai continues to lead the way in gold industry innovation — offering unmatched service, reliability, and trust.
