The drones targeted the US Embassies in Riyadh and Kuwait today. Huge flames of fire engulfed the US embassy in the capital city of Saudi Arabia, soon after the drone attack.
According to media reports, a major fire erupted after Iranian drones struck US diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabiaโs Riyadh and Kuwait on Tuesday, as President Donald Trump warned that a โbig waveโ of attacks is coming against Iran. The escalating confrontation follows days of intensifying military exchanges across the Gulf region.
According to the US State Department, two unmanned aerial vehicles hit the US Embassy in Riyadh. Officials confirmed that the drones struck the roof and perimeter of the chancery building. Consequently, embassy staff sheltered in place, and authorities reported no injuries. However, the attack sparked a limited fire and caused minor material damage.
Saudi Air Defences Intercept Drones
Saudi Arabiaโs defence ministry stated that air defence systems intercepted multiple drones targeting the diplomatic quarter. A Saudi military source said forces shot down four drones during the assault. Later, defence ministry spokesman Major General Turki al-Malki announced that authorities intercepted and destroyed eight drones near Riyadh and Al-Kharj.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the embassy compound and hearing loud explosions in the diplomatic district. Fire engines surrounded the area shortly after the strike. Meanwhile, the US embassy issued shelter-in-place notifications for Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dhahran and restricted non-essential travel to military sites.
Missile Barrage Expands Across Gulf
The attacks in Saudi Arabia coincided with missile and drone launches across Gulf states. The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed it was responding to ballistic missiles fired from Iran. Similarly, Qatarโs defence ministry said its forces intercepted two ballistic missiles early Tuesday.
The war in the Gulf widened after the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran which triggered retaliation, targeting ports, airports, and military installations in the Arab countries.
