MURREE: Around 100 vehicles were stranded across different areas of Tirah Valley on Friday after heavy rain, snowfall, and landslides disrupted movement and blocked key roads. Authorities immediately launched large-scale rescue operations as conditions worsened.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority confirmed that road closures due to continuous snowfall have cut off several routes, including the main Tirah road, which has complicated access for both residents and emergency teams.
Emergency medical services placed on high alert
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department responded by placing hospitals and medical staff on high alert. Officials established a special emergency ward at Hayatabad Medical Complex to provide urgent care to injured individuals.
Moreover, the department directed doctors and paramedical staff to ensure 24/7 availability across relevant facilities. Emergency, surgery, orthopaedics, and blood bank services have been fully activated, while hospitals have stocked sufficient medicines, surgical tools, and essential medical supplies to manage any influx of patients. Authorities also coordinated with ambulance services to guarantee uninterrupted patient transfers from affected areas.
Army, administration, and rescue teams step up efforts
The Pakistan Army and local administration are actively assisting residents who are temporarily evacuating from vulnerable areas of Tirah. So far, rescue teams have saved at least 20 people and moved them to safer locations. Secretary Relief Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Khan stated that around 100 vehicles remain stranded, although officials have already shifted 35 people to safety.
In addition, rescue teams from Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan have reached the area with more than 50 personnel, 16 ambulances, and heavy machinery.
Rescue 1122 has deployed 15 personnel, along with recovery vehicles, ambulances, medical supplies, and specialised equipment from Peshawar. Meanwhile, authorities have dispatched ten trucks carrying blankets, sweaters, bedding, and other essential items to support affected families.
Officials continue to provide food, warm shelters, and transportation without interruption. The Director General PDMA has therefore instructed all district administrations to remain alert and closely monitor the evolving situation across the province.
